THE PROBLEM

FROM: People own many valuable/bulky card decks, but they often get left at home.
TO: All the decks you love in your pocket on your phone.

Deckible is a mobile app that lets you take card decks with you on the go, just like Audible lets you listen to Audiobooks on the go.

We all carry our phones with us at all times. Our spare moments happen when we are out and about during the day.

Deckible offers a way to turn these moments into mindful moments using card decks.

There is more to a digital deck than you might think of at first glance.

THE SOLUTION

WE DIDN'T JUST MAKE DECKS DIGITAL ....

1. WE MADE A MULTI-DECK WORKFLOW

  • To integrate journaling, sharing & meditation.
  • To visually explore your activities over time & enable social sharing
  • To create rituals & habits for all your decks in one app.

2.  WE CURATED A COMMUNITY / MARKETPLACE

  • A global community of creators & their decks.
  • A destination multi-genre marketplace to host 1000’s of decks
  • A new way to buy & sell decks as a digital experience.

3.  WE CRAFTED A TACTILE EXPERIENCE

  • To solve problems of earlier deck apps and to be multi-deck & social.
  • To shuffle, flip, arrange, spread, card sort. To choose or randomize selection.
  • To integrate guidebooks, audio/video  & cards as one experience.

I wrote these words  before creating the following video that is currently on the Deckible website. Deckible opens up many new possibilities because it doesn't just digitize a single deck.

Deckible offers the possibility for decks to be a new "medium". A new way to interact with information on your phone or tablet including audio, video, journaling and meditation.

We believe this is a significant transformation.

The above copy does a good job of describing Deckible as three things. A more classical marketing message tree.

I was just sitting down to write about how and why digital decks do more and I checked back to this writing. I felt it was worth sharing.

With new products like Deckible,  you iterate on distilling the message until you get it right. It's a constant process of refinement, listening and learning.

Your product evolves and so does your story.

Often you find the right words, but don't know it. You may have said them or written them down, but you can miss them. I often find it valuable to return to something you said or wrote earlier. This is a perfect example.

THE DIGITAL CARD DECK PROBLEM

The popularity of Card decks is rising today. There's so many ways to use Card Decks and so many types of decks.

I estimate 100k unique decks in the world today. It is surprising to me decks have not successfully made the transition to being digital.

They live almost exclusively  in the world of print. Compare decks to music, or audio-books or movies. All these have successfully created a digital marketplace.

Many have tried to make digital deck apps, but the experiences have been clunky. They left me feeling unsatisfied, ignoring the fact that each app supported just one deck.

Imagine Spotify if each album needed a different app with each offering a different use interface. Prior to Deckible there has been no universal app to host all the decks you love on your phone.

This problem has intrigued me and was the core inspiration for Deckible.

People who love card decks own 10-20 decks.

These are bulky, and too expensive to keep with you.

We believe decks are the perfect phone-sized experience.

What do you think?

I'd love to hear.
